“Golden Love” – PinSights Challenge Hutson

Ellen Hutson Pin Sights March 2015 Challenge

image

This is the inspiration piece for this month and I thought long and hard about how I would turn this into a card. So I came up with this…

image

The depth and demension that this card gives is amazing. I just cannot believe how beautiful it turned out and I am not bragging or anything, I just never thought I would have ever come up with something like this. But this would not have been created if it hasn’t been for Ellen Hutson’s Pin Sights Challenge.

image

So I actually took all of these pictures on the dash of my car. It had perfect lighting, there were just cars in the background but I was able to veer away from capturing the cars in my pictures.

“You Are…” – Watercolor Resist Background Stamp

image

I completely love this background stamp. With so much detail you can really make such an elegant card….of course when it’s paired with a simply sentiment and a combination of simple colors.

image

So I started off by stamping the image onto some Tim Holtz Watercolor Cardstock with Versamark Ink. Then I sprinkled the image with Rangers Super Fine White embossing powder and heat sett it to perfection using the Milwaukee Precision Heat Gun. With any superfine embossing powder you can get wonderfully detailed embossed images.

image

I taped my embossed piece to a board and grabbed my watercolor palette, a super inexpensive 36 color cakes from Simply Art. Now, this truly proves you do not need expensive top of the line watercolors to get high quality, beautiful results. Im also using various round brushes for my watercoloring. And its not shown in the pictures but I used a dropper to drop clean water on the cakes to get the pigment started.

image

I have started by painting by sections with colors that blend nicely together.

image

My result of the finished watercolor piece looks beautiful. I would usually heat set my watercolor pieces but because I didn’t want to ruin my embossing I let it air dry.

image

After removing the tape theres a tiny white border so I simply trimmed it off using my Fiskars premium titanium blade paper trimmer.

image

I added the sentiment by using my EK success powder tool (not shown) first to make sure I dont get any stray embossing powders. I chose several sentiments to put together using the Simply Fabulous Sayings stamp set from My Favorite Things. Inked it with Versamark ink and stamped the sentiment using the Fiskars stamp press (the smaller version).

image

To assemble I have a Neenah White 140lb cardstock as my card base measuring 4-1/4″ by 11″ scored at 5-1/2″ to make a top folding card.

image

I’ve added some foam tape to the back of my front panel, removed the backings to the tape and adhered the panel centered to my base card.

image

And the final result. Please dont mind my markers in the background. But the colors and detailed stamp image are so beautiful.

image

Heres a variation using a combination of different colors (in rainbow order) and a different sentiment.

image

I am definitely making several sets of these and giving them away! Leave a comment below, follow my instagram and subscribe to me on YouTube (@MaraiahCrystalDesigns) to snag a set for yourself.

Can you believe that this is from Starbucks?! This coffee master is also a dessert master. Yummy Double Chocolate Brownie with Mocha sauce and Caramel Drizzle (My Whip Cream is hiding) on a “for here” plate.

Swallowtail Watercoloring-Gift to Hanano

image

So, I have decided to make not a card but a simple watercolor painting. Made this for a special gal from Japan who is staying with my family for a month. She’s so sweet and so happy to have met her.

image

I used inexpensive watercolor from Simply Art Loew-Cornell, about $7 US, and Princess Gold Embossing Powder by Ranger.

image

Handwritten cursive/semi calligraphy name…Hanano, of the girl from Japan. (I’m still working on the calligraphy).

Watercolor-Emboss Resist Technique

image

I love playing with watercoloring and using different techniques. Watercolor-emboss resist. B-e-a-utiful. I used a stamp set from Stampin’ Up! which is so large that it perfectly fills the whole front of a standard size card and I completely love it! I also used some Faber-Castell gelatos, a mix of Pretty Pink Posh and Neat and Tangled sequins, and a Skittle from Doubleclickconnect.

image

The mixing of colors really intrigued me. The mix of pinks and golds. Also, the fact that the sentiment is large enough to perfectly fit the front of the card means less worry of other embellishments or images to add. So sinple. So classy. Its almost perfect.
